Road Tested RV Home Office Supplies…
Pre-Trip Planning July 3rd, 2008T-Minus four days until Home Office Highway hits the open road, and I still find myself in search of the must-have supplies. I have my latex gloves and Velcro straps. I have Purell (there’s actual germs in the woods!). And I have my harmonica and funky travel hat.
But in frenzied fashion befitting a home office denizen first-timing it in an RV, below is the rest of the stuff I believe I’ll need. Have other ideas? Let me know…
– Cable locks to secure laptops, and a travel pad lock to close my Mobile Workmate. A baseball bat would be nice, too.
– My must-have user IDs and passwords so I can blog, log on, bank and otherwise work and live on the road.
– Work gloves, a broom, rags and cleaning supplies. So Robbie and the kids can keep the RV clean while I work.
– Loose change — and a small vault to carry gas money. While I’m talking currency, can’t forget my Florida Sun-Pass transponder (and, if anyone knows, an answer as to why prepaid toll system transponders from one state don’t work in every state).
– My Logitech Web cam so I can stream and videolog from the road (be sure to check out Ustream.TV to watch and laugh as we explore the open road. Follow us on Twitter, too). For good measure, toss in the Flip video. The kids love messing with that one.
– Maps, charts, the Verizon phone with built-in GPS (and the TomTom – duplication never hurts). Besides, the driver can follow current directionswhile the co-pilot plots the next course.
– Rope. Duct tape. Clamps. Even Vice-Grips. You never know. Besides, I’m a guy. ’nuff said.
– My ratty old goofin’ around backpack. No doubt we’ll go exploring the woods and will want to bring snacks or refreshment along the way. But no way I’m taking my Targus Flare on that trek — not unless my laptop’s in it and I’m looking for a little Henry David Thoreau inspiration…
